Obviously we can assume that the "stew pot" refers to random activity from mom's brain to the cybersphere and all points beyond. Or it could be a really good recipe for stew. I don't know. And since this is my first attempt to blog for any reason, I guess I just cannot find myself in pigeon hole of deciding at this very time what this will be about.
Here's the first recipe. I hope you dig it.
Bryan's stew
1 lb of stewing pork (skip if you are vegan) at the Ranch Market for $1.29 per pound.
Water
About 5 medium size potatoes - cubed
About 2 cups of carrots-whatever size you like
Salt and Pepper
A bit of flour
Sear the pork in a stock pot using a small amount of olive oil. I like to soak garlic cloves in my olive oil and leave it by the stove all the time. Sear the crap out of it. Make your eyes water with delight at the scent. Once everything is nice a browned, dump in about a cup of water. Let that simmer for about 1 hour. When you open the pot again, you should see a soup stock beginning to form. Pork stock is lighter than beef, so don't freak out. Dump in the potatoes and carrots and add another cup of water. Simmer for about 1 more hour. You will see a seriously soupy form here. Nothing like beef stew and a bit alarming. Add some flour, I mean some! Like a handful. Season with salt and pepper (or whatever tickles your toes). Simmer for about another 30-45 minutes until it looks consistent. Remove from heat and let cool. You will notice a kind of pork gravy beginning to form. Good -you want that! Here's the kicker -- don't serve right away. Actually you want to sample so you know what to add, but serve the next day. It will be thicker and more flavorful. Bryan likes it over rice. I know two starches, but the kid is built like a bean pole anyway.
